Mail and Printing Errors Complicate Dutch Municipal Election Preparations

Officials urge vigilant mail checks with strict replacement deadlines in place.

Overview

  • PostNL is investigating non-delivery in Spijkenisse’s De Akkers, where whole streets missed mail between 10 and 14 February, and the municipality is sending replacement voter passes with earlier passes rendered invalid.
  • Veenendaal confirms about 30,000 voter passes were placed in envelopes labeled as candidate lists; supplier Paragon cites a production-process error and stresses the passes remain valid.
  • Bunschoten halted distribution of its candidate list after discovering a wrong surname and other spelling mistakes, ordered a reprint, and is reviewing the process with its vendor.
  • In Amersfoort, a lookalike envelope from Burger Partij Amersfoort reached 68,000 addresses, prompting city warnings as residents might mistake it for official mail and arrive at polling stations without a valid pass.
  • Voters who did not receive or lost a pass can request a replacement via mail or DigiD by 13 March, or in person at the town hall until 12:00 on 17 March, with municipalities advising residents to bring any received passes to polling stations if unsure.
