Maharashtra Speaker Orders EV Toll Waiver in 8 Days, Labels Collections Illegal

Citing delays in syncing FASTag data with Vahan that led to continued charges, the Speaker set an eight-day window for system fixes with refunds to follow.

Overview

  • Rahul Narwekar directed the state to fully enforce the toll exemption for electric vehicles on the MumbaiPune Expressway, the NagpurMumbai Samruddhi Mahamarg and Atal Setu within eight days.
  • The Speaker declared any toll taken from EVs after the policy took effect to be illegal and told officials to stop such charges immediately.
  • Transport minister Dadaji Bhuse acknowledged ongoing deductions and said implementation stalled due to pending FASTag–Vahan integration, promising to expedite the rollout.
  • Refunds will be issued for tolls charged since August 22 upon submission of receipts, though one report cites eligibility from May 23.
  • Narwekar also pressed for stronger charging infrastructure, urging installation of higher-capacity 120 kW chargers to reduce charging times.
