Overview
- The Maharashtra government and a consortium led by Cleveland Clinic, Brookfield Asset Management and Arodhan Health City signed a non‑binding memorandum of understanding on Wednesday to develop the Navi Mumbai International MediCity.
- The project is planned on about 250 acres next to the Navi Mumbai International Airport and is billed as an integrated campus for hospitals, medical and nursing colleges, clinical research, biotech, AI and genomics facilities.
- Cleveland Clinic will serve as the anchor clinical partner and its delegation at the signing included CEO Dr. Tomislav Mihaljevic, senior medical leaders and Lakshmi Mittal as a high‑profile supporter.
- Officials estimate roughly USD 1.2 billion in investment and more than 10,000 direct jobs, and the state said it will help the consortium obtain required clearances but noted that land allocation, binding contracts and financing remain to be completed.
- The MediCity is pitched to boost medical tourism and research capacity in line with India’s Heal in India push, and local institutions such as LNMIIT Jaipur have offered academic and research collaboration as the plan moves from intent to implementation.
