Overview
- The Home Department told the Assembly that 45,662 women were reported missing in 2024 and 48,278 in 2025, with 30,877 and 36,581 traced respectively.
- For minor girls, 11,313 cases were recorded in 2024 and 12,113 in 2025, of which 8,475 and 10,295 were traced, taking the two‑year total to 18,770 found from 23,429 reported.
- Operation Muskaan has completed 13 phases since 2015 rescuing 41,193 children, while the 14th phase running Jan 20–Feb 20, 2026 had located 1,401 minors by Feb 16.
- Among 15–18 year‑olds in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Raigad, Nagpur and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, 4,989 were reported missing in 2024–25 and about 96% (4,813) were traced.
- The government cited Missing Cells at every police station, Anti‑Human Trafficking Cells, school safety audits and awareness drives, though thousands of cases remain unresolved.
