The move to administrative BSF transfers under a May circular is paired with a tendered ₹20 crore detention centre.

Overview

  • Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam told the Legislative Council that deportations surged in 2025 from much lower totals recorded between 2021 and 2024.
  • Police have formed five-member special teams at every station and are conducting intelligence-led verification drives with the Anti-Terrorism Squad.
  • In Mumbai, authorities reported 1,062 deportations in 2025, 104 cases registered, 372 arrests during special drives, and 248 people currently in custody pending verification, with 27 deported so far this year.
  • The government said document checks have intensified, contractors must share worker details for verification, and municipal authorities have taken action against unauthorised hawkers.
  • A heated Council debate featured an opposition call for a Special Task Force and a claim of rapid identification capacity, while the government cited possible statewide combing operations and flagged alleged West Bengal links to forged documents.
