Maharashtra Orders Major Police Reshuffle, Vishwas Nangre Patil Named Nagpur Commissioner

The government says the moves are meant to streamline law enforcement to strengthen urban policing ahead of expected state challenges.

Overview

  • The Maharashtra government issued a statewide transfer order on Tuesday that is now in effect and moved Vishwas Nangre Patil from ADG (ACB) to become Nagpur Police Commissioner while Dr Ravinder Singal was reassigned to the Anti-Corruption Bureau as ADG.
  • The reshuffle included reassignments and promotions at the DG/IG level, with Sanjay Verma posted to the Police Housing and Welfare Corporation, Archana Tyagi to Judicial and Technical Police, Dattatray Shinde elevated to IG in CID Pune, and Sanjay Shintre made Additional Commissioner in the Mira-BhayanderVasai–Virar commissionerate.
  • Several field postings for SPs and DCPs were also changed, including Nitesh Rohan moved to Nanded SP, Abhishek (Abhinash) Kumar to DCP Pune city, Shrimant Lad to SP Hingoli, and Ramesh Dhumal to DCP Nagpur City, reshaping leadership across key districts.
  • Officials and coverage highlight Vishwas Nangre Patil’s 1997 IPS batch background, his frontline role in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks and a President’s Police Medal for Gallantry, and note Dr Singal’s record of tech-driven, community-focused policing as signals of likely priorities such as tougher law-and-order action, cyber investigations and anti-drug work in Nagpur.
  • The order is presented as an administrative step to boost operational readiness and urban policing; implementation is under way and local adjustments and their effects on crime response and community programs will become clearer as the new officers assume charge.
