Maharashtra Okays Metro Line 5/5A Overhaul, HUDCO Loans for Three Vidarbha Expressways

The decision sets a tighter build plan with a clear financing path to move stalled links to construction.

Overview

  • The state’s Infrastructure Development Committee, which met Wednesday, approved a 34.21 km Line 5 plus new Line 5A at an estimated Rs 18,130.55 crore, serving about 6.9 million people and cutting trips by 40–50%.
  • Phase 1 from Kapurbawdi to Dhamankar Naka is near completion, while Phase 2 to Durgadi adds one underground station and a double‑decker metro–flyover to avoid demolishing a busy Bhiwandi flyover.
  • Line 5 now ends at Durgadi, and the 11.83 km Line 5A with seven stations extends the corridor to Kalyan and Ulhasnagar to restore the dropped stretch.
  • The government cleared HUDCO loans for land acquisition on the NagpurGondia, BhandaraGadchiroli, and NagpurChandrapur expressways, with Rs 3,162.18 crore, Rs 931.15 crore, and Rs 2,353.94 crore set aside and MSRDC told to target six‑year completion.
  • Rs 1,063 crore was approved for 2027 Nashik–Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela works to upgrade parking, water supply, power, healthcare and waste systems along with a central control room.
