Maharashtra Cyber Arrests Navi Mumbai Man in Telegram Child-Exploitation Case

MahaCyber says continuous digital monitoring located the suspect whose seized phone contained child sexual exploitation material stored for sale.

Overview

  • MahaCyber traced and detained a Navi Mumbai man identified as Adiraj Rajendra Bait on Thursday after investigators linked a Telegram account to the sale and circulation of child sexual exploitation and abuse material.
  • Investigators used continuous online monitoring, open-source intelligence and technical checks of a UPI payment identifier to locate the suspect before calling him in for questioning.
  • Police seized the suspect’s mobile phone and a forensic analysis found child sexual exploitative material preserved on the device that officials say was intended for sale and further circulation.
  • A criminal case was registered by Maharashtra Cyber and the accused, the FIR and the seized phone were handed to the NRI Police Station in Navi Mumbai for further investigation and legal action.
  • MahaCyber framed CSEAM broadly to include photos, videos, livestreams and AI-generated imagery and said the arrest shows its ongoing strategy of monitoring messaging apps and financial traces to disrupt online distribution networks.
