Maharashtra Clears ₹3,708 Crore JICA Health Upgrade Alongside Hiring Reforms

The cabinet linked college funding to a shift toward no interviews with DigiLocker checks to speed fair hiring under Viksit Maharashtra 2047.

Overview

  • The cabinet, which met Monday, approved a ₹3,708 crore Japan International Cooperation Agency–backed project to strengthen tertiary care, medical education and nursing across the state.
  • Funding targets new government medical colleges in Wardha, Palghar, Ratnagiri and Ahilyanagar, with upgrades for nursing colleges in Mumbai, Dhule, Solapur, Ambajogai, Akola, Nagpur, Ratnagiri, Palghar and Dharashiv.
  • The plan buys advanced equipment for government colleges and hospitals in districts such as Mumbai, Nashik, Satara, Gadchiroli, Ahilyanagar and Wardha to improve diagnosis and treatment.
  • An Indo‑Japan Academic Exchange will build skills in hospital management, administration and clinical practice to support the expansion.
  • In a parallel decision, the state overhauled recruitment by lifting MPSC cadres to 102, ending interviews for many Group‑B and Group‑C posts, adding DigiLocker verification and easing prior experience rules while planning roles in fields like AI.
