Overview
- On Wednesday, June 3, 2026, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis approved forming a Special Purpose Vehicle with Prasar Bharati to jointly develop an integrated film and television media hub in Malad.
- About 150 of Prasar Bharati’s 278 acres in Malad have been earmarked for the project and the site will be integrated with the adjoining Film City ecosystem.
- Officials say the hub is planned to host film studios and sound stages, hospitality and tourism projects, IT and ITES facilities, and international‑standard film and music training centres.
- Development is restricted by Coastal Regulation Zone and No Development Zone rules, so the state has pledged to seek statutory approvals and any regulatory changes needed to proceed.
- The government has ordered a joint working committee and the appointment of a consultant to produce a pre‑feasibility study, detailed project report and an implementation roadmap with a development blueprint due by the end of June; the project follows a tripartite MoU and rests on how fast clearances and financing are arranged.
