Magnitude 2.3 Quake Felt Near Maine–Canada Border With No Damage Reported
State geologists say the tremor fits Maine's pattern of small, shallow earthquakes.

- USGS confirmed a magnitude 2.3 earthquake at 6:55 p.m. Monday near Bridgewater in Aroostook County at a depth of about 3.1 miles.
- Dozens reported weak to light shaking with no damage, including residents in Bridgewater, Monticello, Westfield and Presque Isle.
- Northern Maine quakes are uncommon, with at least 19 recorded in Aroostook County since 1990 and this being the first non-microquake there since 2019.
- University of Maine at Presque Isle geologist Chunzeng Wang believes the event occurred along the Hammond Fault near Packard Lake on the Canadian border.
- Maine has logged more than 170 earthquakes since 1997, with occasional clusters such as York Harbor in early 2024 and Jonesboro in 2022, and a magnitude 3.8 off York Harbor in January 2025 among the strongest in recent records.
