- Gyllenhaal, named jury president Thursday, will lead the main competition panel for the festival running Sept. 2–12, 2026.
- La Biennale’s board approved the choice following a recommendation from festival director Alberto Barbera, who recently had his mandate extended through 2028.
- As president, she will guide deliberations that decide the Golden Lion for best film along with Silver Lions, Volpi Cups, and other official prizes.
- Her directing debut The Lost Daughter won Venice’s best screenplay in 2021, and she released the Frankenstein-inspired The Bride! in 2026.
- The festival will reveal its competition lineup in July, with the remaining jurors to be announced closer to the September event.
