Overview
- Pope León XIV will preside at Mass, a Eucharistic procession, and a blessing in Plaza de Cibeles at 10:00 on Sunday, June 7, with the route going up Calle Alcalá to Gran Vía, turning near the Iglesia de San José, then returning to Cibeles.
- Procession participation is cut for safety and order, with only deacons, acolytes, this year’s first communicants, lay faithful, members of religious life, priests, bishops, and cardinals accompanying the Blessed Sacrament.
- The altar platform will face the main façade of the Palacio de Cibeles, and a choir and orchestra of nearly 400 singers and players drawn from World Youth Day ensembles and other scholas will lead the music.
- Communion near the plaza will be given by concelebrating priests, with extraordinary ministers serving the wider area. The plan calls for 2,300 pyxes holding 200 hosts each and six nearby eucharistic churches open until 14:00 for those unable to receive on site, including celiac communicants.
- Ahead of the visit, the archdiocese will hold a preparatory celebration at Almudena Cathedral on Friday, June 5 for confession and prayer, set up pastoral listening points along the Castellana, and ask attendees to register through the official website.
