Overview
- Madrid approved a new vertical garden for the M-30 at Ventas that will create a 2,834 m² plant facade between kilometer points 5.900 and 6.300.
- Madrid Calle 30 will install the system on the sidewalls of ramps linking the ring road to calle de Alcalá and on the bridge abutments, using the existing concrete enclosure for access.
- The facade will use 34 drought-tolerant Mediterranean species in semi‑hydroponic planters mounted on a metal frame to keep the structure stable.
- Irrigation will run on recycled water from Canal de Isabel II with automated control, a 65,000‑liter buffer tank, and sensors and a weather station to tune watering and track air and plant conditions.
- Works budgeted at €6.2 million are due to start this summer and continue into early 2027 with night shifts to ease disruption on a section that carries 5,000 to 10,000 vehicles per hour.
