Overview
- Madrid’s ‘Mi tarjeta transporte’ app is live for Android 9.0+ phones with NFC and Google Wallet, enabling gate validation on Metro, Metro Ligero, EMT and interurban buses, and Cercanías.
- Once a Madrid pass is digitalized, the physical card stops working, and returning to a physical format requires a duplicate issued at an office for €6.
- At launch, Madrid excludes the blue card, the children’s card and company-managed annual passes, and authorities say they plan to expand supported cards and add iOS later this year.
- Madrid’s rollout follows a pilot with more than 8,000 users, with officials estimating initial coverage for over three million passengers.
- Mexico City’s App CDMX now offers a digital Tarjeta de Movilidad Integrada for NFC-enabled Android and Huawei phones, working on Metro, Metrobús, Cablebús, Trolebús and Tren Ligero, with RTP pending and iPhone support not yet available.
