Madhya Pradesh Launches Rs 1,133-Crore Ujjain Water Project for Simhastha 2028

The rollout marks the start of multi-year works to secure drinking water ahead of a massive pilgrim surge.

Overview

  • Chief Minister Mohan Yadav inaugurated and laid foundations for the Hariyakhedi Water Augmentation Project valued at about Rs 1,133.67 crore.
  • The plan includes 17 new overhead tanks, 708 km of pipeline, roughly 534 km of distribution network, and intake wells at Silarkhedi, Gambhir, Undasa and Sahibkhedi.
  • Officials said the scheme targets reliable citywide supply through 2055 and will add 49,087 new domestic water connections.
  • Yadav also launched or broke ground for 11 other development works worth Rs 47.23 crore and rolled out welfare measures including Project Sanvardhan, laptops for students, and equipment for sanitation staff.
  • A five-day Mahakal Van Mela opened in Ujjain with buyer-seller meets and free Ayurvedic consultations, and Yadav announced plans for bridges near Ramghat, a UjjainIndore four-lane road, a proposed metro and a Dhanvantari Institute of Ayurveda.
