MACC Seizes Over RM52 Million in Army Procurement Probes With Prosecution Referrals Due Monday

The probe’s focus on senior officers has prompted the Defence Minister to vow a procurement review.

Overview

  • Anti‑graft officials report more than RM52 million in cash, assets and frozen funds across two linked investigations into alleged corruption tied to army contracts.
  • In the first case involving the former army chief, MACC seized RM11.4 million in cash, gold, jewellery and 26 luxury watches and froze 75 company accounts holding about RM32.5 million.
  • The second case includes seizures of RM1.3 million in cash, RM721,000 in foreign currency, 2.4kg of gold and several vehicles, with eight company accounts totaling RM4.7 million frozen.
  • MACC says 23 people, including armed forces personnel and civilians, have been detained as investigators trace who paid and who received illicit funds.
  • Completed investigation files will be sent to prosecutors on Monday, with the agency indicating it will propose charges against several senior officers, while the Defence Minister pledges an overhaul of tender and anti‑corruption measures.
