M5 Northbound Remains Closed After Pedestrian Killed in Collision With Two Lorries

Police are investigating after a person was struck near Michaelwood Services, with drivers diverted between junctions 13 and 14.

Overview

  • Gloucestershire Police confirmed the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene following the 11:40am incident on 13 January.
  • The southbound carriageway has reopened, but the northbound stretch between J13 (Stroud) and J14 (Dursley/Falfield) stays shut for collision investigation work.
  • National Highways set strategic diversions via the A38 and B4509, warning of severe delays on the diversion route due to local roadworks.
  • Officers appealed for witnesses and dashcam footage; the lorry drivers were assessed by paramedics and are not believed to be seriously injured.
  • Separate crashes over 12–14 January on the M6, M1, M53, M62, M25 and regional A-roads caused temporary closures and long queues before most routes reopened.
