Overview
- Two HGVs collided around 4am between Junctions 3 and 2, with one striking an overhead gantry and the other rupturing its fuel tank, causing a substantial diesel spill.
- Most of the eastbound carriageway reopened at about 10:30am, but the ‘up and over’ link at Junction 2 remains shut for several hours, with National Highways indicating a full reopening could be around 7pm.
- A signed diversion sent traffic from Junction 3 via the A322 and A30 to M25 Junction 13 to rejoin the M3, and earlier delays reached roughly 50 minutes with queues back to Junction 4 and on the A322.
- Surrey Police, Surrey Fire & Rescue (four engines), SECAmb and National Highways teams attended; both lorry drivers were assessed and one was taken to St Peter’s Hospital with a shoulder injury.
- Drivers can still access and continue on the M25 at Junction 2, but a direct eastbound crossing of the junction remains unavailable during resurfacing.
