Lyten Closes Northvolt Sweden Acquisition, Targets H2 2026 Cell Sales and Unveils Skellefteå Industrial Hub

The company will restart the Skellefteå plant to supply its Polish BESS factory in the second half of 2026.

Overview

  • Lyten completed the purchase of Northvolt Ett, Ett Expansion and Northvolt Labs, taking on 16 GWh of installed capacity, more than 160 hectares of land and what it calls Europe’s largest battery R&D center.
  • Production at Northvolt Ett will restart immediately to make NMC cells for energy storage, automotive and mobility customers, with commercial shipments slated for H2 2026 to feed Lyten’s Gdańsk BESS facility.
  • Lyten established the Lyten Industrial Hub in Skellefteå to co‑locate battery manufacturing with AI data centers using local hydropower, with EdgeConneX planning to acquire a site that could scale to a 1GW campus.
  • Northvolt Labs in Västerås will continue NMC development and work with Lyten’s Silicon Valley team to industrialize lithium–sulfur technology for gigascale manufacturing.
  • Lyten plans to rehire more than 600 employees in Sweden over the next 12 months and says the roughly $5 billion book‑value asset package is financed by North American and European equity investors plus capital tied to EdgeConneX, while it progresses a separate Northvolt asset deal in Heide, Germany.
