Overview
- The project marks Lurie Children’s first inpatient hospital outside its Streeterville campus and is in early planning.
- The proposed low-acuity facility is outlined at roughly 40–50 beds with a pediatric emergency department of about 40 rooms, surgery suites and subspecialties including oncology, cardiology, gastroenterology and orthopedics.
- Lurie has not yet filed with the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board, and an opening could come in late 2028 or early 2029 if approved.
- Hospital leaders cite that about 47% of children in the western suburbs currently leave their communities for overnight pediatric care, and the area lacks a dedicated pediatric ER.
- A design-build team led by Clayco is engaged alongside Skender, ZGF and LJC, the project cost has not been disclosed, and the plan aligns with Lurie’s regional growth including a 2025 Schaumburg outpatient center plus 20+ outpatient sites and 10 partner hospitals.
