Lumo Launches Low-Cost Direct GlasgowLondon Trains

The open-access operator targets price-sensitive travelers with fares from £33 to lure flyers to rail.

Overview

  • Lumo, part of FirstGroup, has begun a new direct service linking Glasgow Queen Street with London King’s Cross via Falkirk, Edinburgh and the North East, with the inaugural train arriving a minute early.
  • The weekday timetable starts with two northbound and one southbound service, with one train each way on Sundays, and from January 1 the schedule adds two more Sunday trains plus an extra northbound weekday service.
  • Advertised fares begin at £33.10 for LondonGlasgow with seats from £10.90 between Glasgow and Newcastle, and the Evening Standard found some January advance singles at £18.55.
  • Services run on the East Coast Main Line with calls including Falkirk High, Edinburgh and Newcastle, taking about five and a half hours, which the Standard reports is slower than Avanti’s fastest but on a generally more reliable route.
  • Lumo plans a StirlingLondon Euston route from May 2026 with five daily trains calling at 10 stations, and the operator says the Glasgow link could bolster travel to the city during the July 2026 Commonwealth Games.
