Lumio Launches Project Neo, Letting Users Message WhatsApp or Instagram to Find TV Shows

The company says the chat-based AI is in public beta to simplify content search and mobile-to-TV sharing and will gain more features over time.

Overview

  • Project Neo entered public beta on Thursday, July 2 through a TLDR app update and is currently available only on Lumio Vision TVs and Lumio Arc projectors.
  • Users pair their phone to a Lumio device by scanning a QR code in the TLDR app or sending a pairing code to Neo on WhatsApp, and they can link Instagram to share Reels or posts for the TV to identify.
  • Neo accepts short text or voice queries and returns on-screen recommendations, including identifying titles from vague descriptions and surfacing trending content across supported services.
  • The beta has clear limits: Neo works only while the TLDR app is open, it cannot take over another running app like Netflix, and it cannot automatically play found content yet.
  • Lumio built Neo with nine launch languages aimed at Indian users and says it will add more features and languages, a move that could shift how people discover TV content and raise new privacy and permission questions around message-based device control.
