Lula Tours São Paulo Labs to Inspect Ethanol and Biodiesel Projects

The visits underscore presidential support for biofuel technology under the constraints of the electoral defeso.

Overview

  • President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is scheduled to visit the Instituto Mauá de Tecnologia in São Caetano do Sul and the Instituto de Aeronáutica e Espaço in São José dos Campos to inspect ethanol and biodiesel research facilities.
  • At Instituto Mauá he will tour the Division of Engines and Vehicles and the Robotics, Automotive and NSPi laboratories and make a press announcement at midday.
  • In São José dos Campos he will view the UGEE1000BR project, an effort to build a national gas turbine designed to run entirely on ethanol, followed by a second press announcement.
  • Vice‑President Geraldo Alckmin and Energy Minister Alexandre Silveira are set to join the events and the itinerary was adjusted to avoid inaugurations or new program launches so it complies with electoral defeso rules.
  • The visits signal government backing for biofuel R&D that could affect future energy options and rural markets and are meant to highlight technology and industrial capacity at a time political rules limit campaign‑style publicity.
