Overview
- Centers in Itabira (MG), Goiânia (GO), São Luís (MA), Marília (SP) and Colatina (ES) were inaugurated with new linear accelerators.
- The federal government says it spent more than R$ 67.5 million on the equipment this year, delivered 22 accelerators, and targets 121 by 2026.
- Each accelerator can treat up to 600 new patients per year, and radiotherapy is indicated in about 60% of cancer cases, according to the Ministry of Health.
- Nearly 40% of SUS patients previously traveled an average of 145 km for radiotherapy, a strain the expansion is intended to ease across all states.
