Lula Links R$72.5 Billion Petrobras Pledge in Sergipe to Expanded Cancer Care and Transport Support

The visit ties a large regional energy investment to new federal steps to boost oncology capacity, specialist logistics and workforce registration for the public health system.

Overview

  • President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva visited Sergipe on Friday, May 29 to attend a Petrobras investment announcement at the Fafen site and to inspect health facilities in Lagarto and Aracaju.
  • At Laranjeiras Lula joined Petrobras president Magda Chambriard for a pledge of more than R$72.5 billion in investments for Sergipe that the government framed as a regional development commitment.
  • In Lagarto he toured the Hospital do Amor Interestadual, which the Ministry of Health funded with R$137.5 million, operates fully under SUS and was certified as a Unacon to provide high‑complexity oncology care.
  • In Aracaju the president presided over delivery of 406 vehicles from the Programa Agora Tem Especialistas to seven states to help transport patients and teams and reduce waiting lists for specialist appointments.
  • The day also included issuance of registration cards for sanitaristas to formalize public‑health workers; officials say the combined actions aim to expand access to cancer diagnosis and treatment across 153 municipalities serving about 2.9 million people and to ease referral and logistics bottlenecks.
