Lufthansa’s 747-8 Gets Centennial ‘XXL Crane’ Livery, Returns to Service March 6

The jumbo joins a five-strong anniversary fleet that showcases the 1918 crane emblem with bold “100” markings.

Overview

  • Lufthansa says 747-8 D-ABYN was repainted in San Bernardino and is scheduled to arrive in Frankfurt on March 5 at around 10:00.
  • The aircraft, christened Niedersachsen, is expected to touch down on the airport’s center runway for clear viewing by spotters and media.
  • The jet is slated to reenter passenger service on March 6 with a FrankfurtLos Angeles flight.
  • The anniversary scheme features an oversized white crane across a blue fuselage with “100” on the left side, “1926/2026” on the right, and a belly “100” logo.
  • Five aircraft are already flying in the centennial design, and Lufthansa plans to add an A350-1000 in autumn 2026 to complete a seven-aircraft set.
