Lufthansa Technik Breaks Ground on 55,000 m² MRO Hub in Portugal

Overview

• Lufthansa Technik began construction in Santa Maria da Feira after an official groundbreaking ceremony attended by Portuguese leaders and company executives.
• The 55,000 square metre facility will specialise in repair of engine parts and aircraft components and will be operated by Lufthansa Technik Portugal, founded in 2024.
• The group has committed a three‑digit million‑euro investment to the project and expects the site to start operations in 2028.
• Lufthansa projects the hub will create up to 700 highly skilled jobs at the facility and more than 1,000 direct jobs across its Portuguese operations over time.
• The wider package includes a TravelTech and AI hub in northern Portugal and the first help alliance entity established outside Germany in Europe, which Lufthansa says deepens its long‑term industrial and social ties with Portugal.
