Lufthansa Opens Nearly All Allegris Business Seats on 787-9 After FAA Progress

Following FAA milestones, Lufthansa can start monetizing its complex Dreamliner cabin after months of restricted sales.

Overview

  • Bookings now open for 25 of 28 business seats on Allegris‑fitted 787‑9s for travel from April 15, with three second‑row seats—2A, 2K and 2E—still unavailable.
  • For months only four front‑row Business Suites were sellable as regulators assessed evacuation and injury‑criterion compliance for the mixed‑layout cabin.
  • Lufthansa says the certification work addressed constraints unique to the 787’s fuselage geometry compared with the earlier‑certified A350 installation.
  • Eight Allegris‑equipped 787‑9s are based in Frankfurt, with initial routes slated to Austin, Rio de Janeiro, Bogotá, Cape Town, Shanghai, Hyderabad and Hong Kong, then New York JFK and Los Angeles in June and Delhi in July.
  • As it expands Allegris across the fleet, Lufthansa chose the already‑certified Thompson Vantage XL for A380 retrofits to avoid repeat delays and still targets 29 Dreamliners by the end of 2027.
