Lufthansa Flights Back on Schedule After Two-Day Pilots' Strike

The pension dispute with Vereinigung Cockpit remains unresolved, leaving many travelers eligible for refunds, care or compensation under EU rules.

Overview

  • Lufthansa said operations returned to the published timetable on Saturday after walkouts that concentrated disruptions at Frankfurt and Munich.
  • Company figures claim it operated more than half of scheduled flights over the two strike days, including about 60% of long-haul services and over 80% at Lufthansa Cargo.
  • Vereinigung Cockpit countered that roughly 80% of flights were canceled on both days, calling the strike very successful.
  • On Friday alone, about 180 flight movements were canceled in Munich and roughly 450 in Frankfurt, with airport operator Fraport attributing most Frankfurt cancellations to Lufthansa.
  • Lufthansa ran a contingency plan using larger aircraft, unaffected group carriers and voluntary crews, while Cityline’s action ended after one day and Eurowings continued normal service; affected passengers can seek rebooking or a refund within seven days and may claim care and, in many cases, compensation.
