Lufthansa Debuts First 100th-Anniversary Livery as 787-9 Lands in Frankfurt

The rollout ties the modern fleet to the airline’s 1926 roots through an outsized crane motif by Otto Firle.

Overview

  • A brand-new Boeing 787-9 featuring the XXL-Kranich and the inscription “1926 | 2026” arrived at Frankfurt on December 23.
  • Lufthansa says the aircraft will enter scheduled service in the coming weeks, with the six-plane jubilee fleet targeted for completion by autumn 2026.
  • Reporting indicates the anniversary paint will also appear on an Airbus A380, Airbus A350-1000, Airbus A350-900, an Airbus A320, and a Boeing 747-8.
  • The livery references the original crane emblem created by graphic artist Otto Firle, and the first jet is reported to carry the name “Berlin.”
  • The centenary reflects the 1926 founding and the April 6 first flight, while the present Deutsche Lufthansa AG is legally separate from the prewar carrier that was liquidated after World War II.
