Lufthansa Begins A380 Cabin Retrofit With Thompson VantageXL, Completion Targeted by Mid-2027

The carrier chose certified Thompson VantageXL to accelerate A380 upgrades after Allegris delays.

Overview

  • Work started in February at Elbe Flugzeugwerke in Dresden, with first aircraft D-AIMC due back to Munich in April and the eight-jet programme slated to finish by mid-2027.
  • A380 business cabins will transition to Thompson’s VantageXL in a 1-2-1 layout, giving every passenger direct aisle access.
  • The new seats offer a width of 58 cm, a bed length of at least two metres, Bluetooth connectivity and adjustable privacy partitions.
  • Post-refit configuration will be 68 business, eight first, 52 premium economy and 371 economy seats for a total of 499, down from 509.
  • Lufthansa also confirmed that its 747-8 and A350-900 fleets will receive Allegris seats across all classes, with timelines yet to be announced.
