Ludhiana Is Punjab’s Third City to Launch AI-Driven Traffic System and Upgraded Command Center

Police say the integrated setup will speed emergency response to about eight minutes.

Overview

  • DGP Gaurav Yadav inaugurated the Intelligent Traffic Management System and an upgraded Integrated Command and Control Centre in Ludhiana on Tuesday, making it the third city after Jalandhar and Mohali.
  • Under the command center project, about 1,700 high resolution cameras now cover 259 locations across the city.
  • The traffic system is live at 46 junctions and automatically flags violations such as red light jumping, stop line breaches, riding without helmets, triple riding, overspeeding, wrong side driving and illegal parking.
  • By linking Traffic, the police control room, Safe City feeds and wireless units under one roof, police say PCR response time has fallen from about 15 minutes to roughly 7 to 8 minutes.
  • The system adds AI monitoring, a green corridor for emergency vehicles and vehicle tracking to flag suspicious cars, positioned by officials as part of a ₹1,100 crore modernization drive that funds computerisation and a stronger cyber crime wing.
