Lucknow Police Pull Biker From Open Well After GPS Misroute

The late-night fall followed GPS directions onto a poorly marked turn on the Nagram–Khujouli road.

Overview

  • The rider was identified as 25-year-old Ritesh Jaiswal of Arjunganj, traveling from Chowk in Lucknow to his native village Bhawanigarh in Rae Bareli.
  • Around 12:10 a.m. on January 21, he skidded at a sharp, poorly marked bend and plunged into an unprotected well lacking railings or warning signs.
  • Patrolling constables Pawan Kumar Yadav and Surjit Verma found his unattended motorcycle, located him by torchlight, and used tied mufflers and shawls to pull him out after about 30 minutes.
  • Jaiswal had been stuck for roughly an hour, clinging to a rock, and was treated at a nearby hospital for minor injuries before being taken home.
  • Video of the rescue shot in near darkness circulated on social media, prompting public praise for the officers and renewed focus on local road safety gaps.
