Lucid Launches Operational Reset After Widening Q2 Losses

The plan targets $1.4 billion in 2026 cash savings to extend liquidity into 2027, refocusing the company on product quality and robotaxi partnerships.

Overview

  • Lucid, which reported results on Tuesday, Aug. 4, posted roughly $405 million in revenue for Q2 but saw net and adjusted losses widen into the high hundreds of millions, prompting a management-led overhaul.
  • New CEO Silvio Napoli unveiled an operational reset that aims to cut $1.4 billion of 2026 cash outflows by shrinking vehicle inventory, trimming about $500 million in capital spending, and reducing roughly $200 million in operating expenses.
  • As part of the plan Lucid cut about 18% of its U.S. workforce, removed the plant’s second production shift to draw down inventory and lower per-unit cash burn, and expects those moves to generate material annualized savings.
  • The company delayed its lower-priced midsize model Cosmos to the second half of 2027 and confirmed AMP-2 in Saudi Arabia will be the primary site for that platform while accelerating robotaxi testing with Uber and Nuro as a strategic revenue path.
  • Lucid said recent Saudi-linked financing and roughly $3.0 billion of total liquidity should provide runway well into 2027, but investors still face questions about factory under‑utilization, profitability and whether the reset will restore market confidence.
