LPG Blast at Bhosari MIDC Unit Injures Six, Firefighters Contain Blaze

Rapid response by Pimpri-Chinchwad fire crews prevented a wider industrial disaster.

Overview

  • The explosion occurred around 3:45 pm on Saturday at Ambika Powder Coating in Pune’s Bhosari MIDC, producing dense smoke inside the unit.
  • One worker sustained serious burns while five suffered minor injuries, with all given first aid and moved to a nearby hospital.
  • The injured were identified as Sunil Kumar, Dau Kumar, Sudd Jaiswal, Suraj Jato, Rahul Kumar and Rohit Kumar, according to officials.
  • About 30 personnel from the Pimpri, Nehrunagar and Bhosari stations, led by deputy fire officers Gautam Ingawale and Dilip Gaikwad, contained the blaze despite multiple LPG cylinders complicating the operation.
  • A preliminary probe points to an LPG leak leading to a vapour-cloud ignition, with the exact cause under investigation as PCMC officials urge stricter inspections, maintenance and worker training.
