Louisville Officials Seek Review of Judge’s 30-Year Sentence in Violent Kidnapping Case

The judge said the term reflects a belief that Christopher Thompson can be rehabilitated.

Overview

  • Judge Tracy Davis on Feb. 2 sentenced Christopher Thompson to 30 years for kidnapping, sodomy, robbery and sexual abuse, departing from a jury’s 65-year recommendation.
  • Davis also imposed more than four years of consecutive time for Thompson’s repeated profanity and insults during the sentencing hearing.
  • Commonwealth’s Attorney Gerina D. Whethers said she was disappointed the court did not follow the jury’s recommended term.
  • Louisville Metro Council members, including Anthony Piagentini, criticized the sentence and plan to seek greater transparency by requesting records on Davis’s sentencing and shock-probation practices.
  • Prosecutors say Thompson abducted a woman in 2023, assaulted her in a school parking lot, forced an ATM withdrawal, and assaulted her again at gunpoint, with court records noting prior charges and an LMDC-recorded assault on an officer.
