Overview
- Multiple officers responded to 911 reports of an assault on the 3000 block of Cromarty/Cromartie Way and found 27-year-old Martin Nitzken Jr. naked and sitting in the street.
- Police say Nitzken ignored repeated commands to show his hands, stood and walked toward an officer, and was then shot and killed by Officer Nathan Stotts.
- Chief Humphrey identified Stotts as the shooter and announced he has begun the administrative termination process while the LMPD Public Integrity Unit continues its investigation.
- Backup officers rendered aid at the scene but Nitzken died there, and police released that the 911 caller, identified as Nitzken’s girlfriend, reported multiple assaults before officers arrived.
- The department has scheduled a public briefing and plans to release body-camera footage and related records, which officials say will guide the next steps in the probe.
