- Bolton Crown Court jailed John Eric Spiby for 16 years and six months, his son John Colin Spiby for nine years, Lee Drury for nine years and nine months, and previously sentenced Callum Dorrian to 12 years.
- The judge described the scheme as the largest production of drugs of this nature ever uncovered by police.
- Production was based in converted stables at Spiby’s Astley cottage and an industrial unit on Albion Street in Salford, concealed behind a front company branded Nutra Inc/NutraInk.
- Police intercepted a hired van carrying more than 2.5 million tablets in April 2022, and May raids seized firearms, cash, industrial machinery and large quantities of pills and raw materials.
- Investigators estimate output worth £7.2m–£12.9m in bulk and up to £288m at street prices, with prosecutors citing links to local drug deaths and detectives noting ties to firearms supply.
