Overview
- A heavy goods vehicle left the road and struck a house on Long Lane in Banks on Thursday, May 28, and Lancashire Police later confirmed the driver, a man in his 50s, died at the scene.
- Lancashire Fire and Rescue deployed four fire engines and the county Urban Search and Rescue team, with crews attending for hours to secure the damaged vehicle and building.
- Police established a large cordon closing the junction of Church Road and Chapel Lane, drivers were diverted and the HGV and house were reported badly damaged while occupants of the house were not injured.
- Officers have logged the incident as log 318 of May 28 and appealed for anyone with CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage to contact 101 as they prepare a file for the coroner and continue forensic work.
- The cordon and road closures persisted into the afternoon while the lorry was recovered and investigators worked at the scene, so local traffic disruption and access restrictions are likely to continue.
