Overview
- Two cargo lorries collided near Metpally in Nirmal when a potato-laden truck rammed the jowar-loaded vehicle from behind, triggering a fast-moving fire.
- The driver of the potato truck, 40-year-old Jawhar Rajput of Neradigonda village, was trapped by a damaged cabin door and was found burnt to death.
- Rajput’s brother Ravath raised the alarm and fire control was notified around 5:30 am, and a Nirmal fire tender doused the flames within about an hour.
- The other lorry’s driver survived with injuries and is being treated at the government hospital in Nirmal while fire crews say the blaze may have originated in Rajput’s AC cabin.
- Authorities have launched an investigation into the collision, cabin damage and the suspected AC-origin of the fire to establish the precise cause and any safety failures.
