Lorry Crash and Fire in Nirmal Kills Driver

Firefighters say a blaze that likely started in the driver’s AC cabin spread rapidly and trapped the man inside.

Overview

  • Two cargo lorries collided near Metpally in Nirmal when a potato-laden truck rammed the jowar-loaded vehicle from behind, triggering a fast-moving fire.
  • The driver of the potato truck, 40-year-old Jawhar Rajput of Neradigonda village, was trapped by a damaged cabin door and was found burnt to death.
  • Rajput’s brother Ravath raised the alarm and fire control was notified around 5:30 am, and a Nirmal fire tender doused the flames within about an hour.
  • The other lorry’s driver survived with injuries and is being treated at the government hospital in Nirmal while fire crews say the blaze may have originated in Rajput’s AC cabin.
  • Authorities have launched an investigation into the collision, cabin damage and the suspected AC-origin of the fire to establish the precise cause and any safety failures.
