Long Beach Rider Found Dead in Mojave Desert

A formal investigation is under way with investigators seeking tips from anyone who was at El Mirage on July 10.

Overview

  • San Bernardino County officials confirmed that Julie Goforth, 63, was found dead in a remote area of the Mojave Desert on Thursday just before 12:30 p.m.
  • Goforth disappeared after separating from a riding partner during a dirt-bike outing at the El Mirage Dry Lake Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation Area on July 10, and her friend reported her missing the same day.
  • Searches over the following days used helicopters, drones, search dogs, horseback units, ATVs and volunteer teams while temperatures topped 100 degrees, hampering efforts and raising concern about dehydration risks.
  • Family members said Goforth was riding a brand-new Kawasaki and that no helmet, bike or boot was found initially, with friends and relatives offering a $10,000 reward during the search.
  • The sheriff’s office is asking anyone who was in the El Mirage area on July 10 to contact Detective Harris or submit anonymous tips through We-Tip or the department’s online portal while investigators work to determine the circumstances of her death.
