Overview
- Investigators say a 2013 Chevy Captiva reversed off the road at high speed onto the sidewalk, striking three people seated on the front steps of a home on the 400 block of Maine Avenue late Monday morning.
- The toddler was rushed to a hospital in a patrol car by two Long Beach officers who provided emergency care en route, and she was later pronounced dead.
- Authorities identified the child as 1-year-old Myrah Hunter; a 12-year-old girl and a 45-year-old woman were hospitalized in stable condition.
- The driver, identified as 55-year-old Lamont Ivan Russell of Long Beach, remained at the scene and was arrested, then booked on felony vehicular manslaughter, felony DUI and misdemeanor battery with bail set at $335,000.
