London Marathon to Run Over Two Days in 2027, Opening 100,000 Places

Organisers say the one‑off weekend will relieve record ballot demand.

Overview

  • London Marathon Events announced on Friday, June 19, 2026 that the 47th race will be held on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 April 2027 as a one‑off two‑day event to allow 100,000 runners to take part.
  • Every applicant has been entered into a double‑day ballot with results expected in early July and successful entrants randomly assigned to only one of the two race days.
  • Organisers will split elite and mass fields across the weekend so one day hosts elite women, elite female para‑athletes, championship and good‑for‑age women while the other hosts the equivalent men’s categories.
  • Runners on both days will run the standard 26.2‑mile Greenwich to Westminster course, organisers have reserved two guaranteed entries for every London school and extra borough allocations, and they estimate the expanded weekend could raise £150m+ for charities and deliver ~£400m in social and economic benefit.
  • LME describes the change as a single‑year measure and says detailed timings, start formats, transport plans and emergency‑services coordination will be confirmed with city partners in the coming months.
