London Man Jailed for Threats to Teen in First Staffordshire Case Under Online Safety Act

The 24-year-old admitted offences created by the 2023 Online Safety Act.

Overview

  • Shabaz Khokar, 24, was sentenced to two years and five months at Woolwich Crown Court on January 19.
  • He admitted encouraging or assisting serious self-harm, sending communications threatening death or serious harm, and committing an act intended to pervert the course of justice.
  • Police arrested him at Stafford train station in August 2025 after he sent the victim screenshots of a train ticket showing he planned to travel to her home.
  • Following conditional bail that barred contact and entry to Staffordshire, he contacted the victim telling her to self-harm and to drop the case, prompting further charges.
  • The court issued an indefinite restraining order, and Staffordshire Police said it was the force’s first sentencing under section 184 of the Online Safety Act.
