London Bus Strikes Begin, Disrupting 20 Routes Through Christmas Eve

Drivers walked out over a rejected pay deal featuring a lower‑paid starter grade.

Overview

  • Unite members at Stagecoach’s Lea Interchange and First Bus’s London Transit depot at Westbourne Park are taking coordinated action on scheduled dates in December and January.
  • East and northeast London are set for no service on routes 58, 97, 135, 236, 276, 308, 339, 488, D8, W13, W14 and 678, with possible delays on the 86, on December 12–13 and January 8–9.
  • West, southwest and northwest London face little or no service on routes 13, 23, 31, 218, 295, 452 and N31 on December 12–13, December 15–16 and December 22–24.
  • Around 350 workers are expected to join the Westbourne Park walkouts, and TfL says most services elsewhere will run but local routes may be busier than usual.
  • Unite alleges union busting and bullying at Lea Interchange, claims Stagecoach denies, with negotiations ongoing and no settlement announced.
