Overview
- Louisville police on Monday identified Robert Baker and Robert Gabbard as the officers involved and placed them on leave during a Public Integrity Unit investigation.
- Officers were dispatched to a mental-health welfare call about 28-year-old Katelyn Hall, who had self-inflicted cuts and was locked in a bathroom with a piece of glass.
- Fire crews forced the bathroom door open, and police say Hall came out and charged while holding a large sharp object, prompting both officers to shoot; she was taken to a hospital where she died.
- LMPD says the call did not qualify for mobile-crisis diversion because a weapon and other people were present at the scene.
- Police say body-camera footage and additional materials will be released within 10 business days as part of the department’s transparency policy.
