Overview
- Lloyds announced on Saturday that it will retire the Halifax name and begin inviting Halifax customers to switch to the Lloyds app in the coming weeks and months.
- Existing Halifax accounts will keep the same sort codes and account numbers and remain covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, and Halifax will stop opening new accounts.
- The group said no Halifax branches will close and no roles will be cut because of the move, and it will start removing Halifax signage at about 190 sites from early 2027 with rebranding through 2027.
- Halifax mortgages will continue to be offered through intermediaries until those businesses rebrand to Lloyds Intermediaries in 2027.
- Lloyds is warning customers to ignore any requests to move money or share security details and says invitations will arrive through trusted channels as the move follows years of technical integration since Halifax joined Lloyds in 2009 and account management was unified in early 2025.
