Lima's New Transit Card Will Be Required on Línea 2 From July 8

ATU says the move will modernize fare collection by allowing a single card to work across metro lines, bus corridors and selected routes.

Overview

  • ATU will make the Tarjeta Interoperable de Transporte (TIT) mandatory to enter and exit Línea 2 starting July 8, and validations without the TIT will be barred.
  • Sales of the TIT began July 1 at five Línea 2 stations—Evitamiento, Óvalo Santa Anita, Colectora Industrial, Hermilio Valdizán and Mercado Santa Anita—available from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. so riders can buy cards before the rule takes effect.
  • The system remains in marcha blanca so tapping the TIT at turnstiles will not yet trigger fare payment and users do not need to load value during this testing phase.
  • Designated groups including National Police, volunteer firefighters and people with Conadis disability ID can obtain or renew the TIT free at authorized modules, ATU said.
  • The TIT includes personalization with cloud-linked balances, encrypted credentials and an antipassback control to curb resale and repeated entries, and ATU is working with AEMUS and bus operators to add progressive interoperability with Línea 1, the Metropolitano and selected conventional routes.
