Lima Tightens Truck-Lane Controls on Panamericana Sur During 15-Day Rollout

A 15-day educational phase precedes penalties for violations.

Overview

  • Mayor Renzo Reggiardo said enforcement will be intensified as Ordinance 2807 confines heavy trucks to the right and adjacent lanes between Av. El Derby and Puente Conchán.
  • The “marcha blanca” is in effect with preventive SAT notifications and no fines, with sanctions of about S/418 and 20 points to begin after the period ends around March 7.
  • EMAPE reports traffic has risen to roughly 75,000 vehicles a day, about 30% heavy trucks, worsening congestion and roadway deterioration.
  • Compliance is monitored with cinemómetros and municipal inspectors at Benavides, Atocongo, Alipio Ponce and Mateo Pumacahua in coordination with the National Police and city agencies.
  • Alternate routes include the Antigua Panamericana Sur and Av. Pedro Miotta for south–north travel, with a Sunday 16:00–20:00 lane reversal that expands return lanes and cuts travel time.
